Welcome to the Microsoft Word 2007 Essentials workshop. Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used applications in the world today, so it’s important to have a firm grasp on the basics. To begin, you’ll learn basic word processing tasks, such as how to type, delete, and edit text. Then, we’ll look at some of Word’s essentials features, including formatting tools, bullets and numbering, themes, and headers and footers.
In this module, we’ll jump right into using Word. You’ll learn how to open and close the application, as well as how to create a blank document and how to use the interface.
So far, we have learned how to use the basic features of Word. Now, we’ll learn how to create, open, and close files. We’ll also look at Word’s templates.
Now that we’ve got the basics down, we’ll look at the key skills needed to create a new document, including selecting text, using drag and drop, checking spelling, and inserting page breaks.
So far, we have learned how to create a basic document and work with text. In this module, you will be introduced to some additional editing tools, including cut, copy, and paste; the Office clipboard; undo and redo; and find and replace.
It’s finally time for the fun stuff: learning how to make your document look nice. In this module, we will begin by looking at the various ways that you can format your font.
Now that we’ve got the basics of formatting text down, let’s look at some more advanced techniques. This module will look at highlighting text, changing case, using the Format Painter, and using the Font dialog.
Now that we understand character-level formatting, let’s move on to paragraph level formatting. This module will show you how to change spacing, set alignment, use indents and tabs, create bulleted and numbered lists, and add borders and shading to paragraphs.
Styles are one of Word’s most powerful and underused features. They allow you to set formatting rules for various parts of your document. If you want to change formatting, you simply change the style, and all the text that it has been applied to gets changed, too. Even better, Word 2007 comes with a vastly improved set of styles and themes to give you even more power over the appearance of your document.
It’s finally time to look at page and document level formatting. This module will show you how to format text as columns, add headers and footers, change page orientation, and add borders and shading to your pages.
For our final module, we’ll look at finishing up your document and getting it to its destination.
Although this workshop is coming to a close, we hope that your journey to improve your Microsoft Word skills is just beginning. Please take a moment to review and update your action plan. This will be a key tool to guide your progress in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. We wish you the best of luck on the rest of your travels!
