Lync 365 Essentials

Lync Online is Microsoft’s premiere online communications software with instant messaging, audio and video calls, and online meetings that include sharing your desktop. Your participants will be well versed in this great tool that will provide a great benefit in their Office 365 usage.

Office 365 Lync Essentials will get your participants started on their path to using Lync for all your communications. We’ll first look at how to sign into Lync Online. Then your participants will learn how to set up Lync to start automatically and configuring their Lync profiles.

Introduction : Getting Started

Welcome to the Office 365 Lync Online for Enterprises Essentials workshop. Lync Online is Microsoft’s premiere online communications software with instant messaging, audio and video calls, and online meetings that include sharing your desktop.

Module 1 : Welcome to Office 365

This module will get you started on your path to using Lync for all your communications. We’ll first look at how to sign into Lync Online. Then we’ll look at how to set up Lync to start automatically. You’ll learn how to add a picture to your Lync profile. Finally, we’ll take a look at how to sign out of Lync.

Module 2 : Working with Contacts

Your Contacts list should include people that you want to contact often or who you want to keep up with in Lync Online. This module will explain how to search for people. It will also explain how to build your contacts list and add contacts outside your organization. Then, you’ll learn how to tag or pin a contact. You’ll also learn how to create groups to simplify your communications to similar people. Finally, we’ll take a look at how to check the status, location, and calendar for your contacts.

Module 3 : Working with Presence Indicators

This module discusses presence indicators – the symbols that help you determine the availability of other contacts (and your availability to others). First you’ll learn about the indicators themselves. The second lesson explains how to change your status. You’ll also learn about privacy relationships and how to hide your activity feed from other viewers. This module explains how to change or hide your location and enable the privacy mode.

Module 4 : Working with Instant Messaging

Welcome to the world of instant messaging! First, you’ll learn how to send messages both to an individual contact and to a group. Then, you’ll learn how to accept or ignore an instant message. You’ll also learn how to invite another contact to a current instant message conversation. This module also explains how to format instant messages and use emoticons. Finally, you’ll learn how to end an instant message conversation.

Module 5 : Working with Online Meetings

This module will introduce you to the online meetings feature in Lync Online. First, you’ll learn how to start an unscheduled meeting. This module discusses how to schedule a meeting with a contact and send an online meeting invitation. Then, we’ll take a look at the access and presenter options. You’ll also learn how to join an online meeting. Finally, you’ll learn some of the organizer and presenter best practices for conducting an online meeting.

Module 6 : Working with the Lync Online Web Scheduler

The Lync Online Web scheduler is a web-based meeting scheduling and management tool for users who don’t have access to Microsoft Outlook or who are not on the Windows operating system. This module will introduce you to scheduling with the web scheduler. You’ll learn how to send invitations and customize roles. You’ll also learn how to join a meeting, view or edit a meeting, and delete or cancel a meeting.

Module 7 : Working with PowerPoint Presentations

You can use Lync to give a professional online PowerPoint presentation. This module explains how to upload and give the presentation. You’ll learn how to control what others can view during the presentation, as well as how to change presenters during the meeting. You’ll also learn about annotations.

Module 8 : Sharing Your Desktop or a Program

During Lync Online meetings, you can have working sessions in which you share and edit files with others using desktop and program sharing. In this module, you’ll learn how to share your desktop. You also learn how to share a program, as well as stop sharing. This module explains how to give control, take back control, and stop people from sharing. Finally, we’ll look at how to request control while someone else is sharing.

Module 9 : Collaborating on a Whiteboard

This module introduces the Whiteboard, where you can collaborate on ideas with a variety of tools to support the brainstorming process. You’ll learn how to open and add content to a whiteboard. You’ll also learn how to edit, format, and delete a whiteboard. This module also explains how to view a whiteboard privately, close it, or delete it.

Module 10 : Using Audio and Video

You need voice-over-internet protocol (VOIP) capability, a microphone, and speakers to use Lync Online communications for voice calls. This module introduces you to making calls and video calls with Lync. You’ll also learn how to answer or decline a call. You’ll learn how to set your ringtones and sound options. This module introduces the Lync conference call. Finally, you’ll learn how to set your options for audio and video.
