Introduction : Getting Started

Welcome to the Microsoft OneNote 2013 Advanced workshop. OneNote is a flexible canvas to store all of your ideas and notes in one place and store, search or share them. This course will help you learn more advanced skills for working with your Notebooks.

Module 1 : Working with Notebooks

This module discusses the process for upgrading from OneNote 2007 or earlier – the file format has changed, which means that your old program cannot open files from OneNote 2013. You’ll learn how to migrated updated notebooks to move them to the cloud, so that you can access them from any computer or device. Last in this module, we’ll take a look at OneNote Backups.

Module 2 : Using Additional Notebooks

This module explains how to work with multiple notebooks. You’ll learn how to create, close and open additional notebooks. Then we’ll look at how to customize the OneNote options.

Module 3 : Formatting and Editing Your Notes

This module tackles a number of formatting and editing tasks. You’ll learn how to apply styles to your text for a consistent look. Next, we’ll look at the Page Setup Group, where you can change the page color, add rule lines, and adjust the paper size. This module looks at the new feature for embedding Visio diagrams in your notes. You’ll also learn about some of the tools for working with drawings and other objects – resizing and moving, as well as arranging and rotating.

Module 4 : Working with Audio and Video

This module focuses on audio and video. You’ll learn how to record both for your notes, as well as how to manage the Audio & Video playback settings

Module 5 : Working with Tables

This module looks at tables. You’ll learn how to select cells, rows, and columns for editing. You’ll also learn how to delete items from the table and insert items into the table. Then we’ll look at borders and shading to help you format the table. We’ll also look at the text alignment in the cells. Finally, you’ll learn how to sort the text in the tables.

Module 6 : Working with Equations and Excel Spreadsheets

Get ready to work with numbers. This module looks at the Calculator capabilities that allow you to make simple arithmetic, math, and trigonometry functions right within the text of your notes. No need to switch to a calculator! We’ll also learn how to insert an equation for more complex calculations. Then we’ll look at embedding Excel spreadsheets right within the notes page. You can even convert an existing OneNote table to an Excel spreadsheet. Last, we’ll look at converting ink you’ve drawn with the mouse or a stylus to an equation.

Module 7 : Researching a Topic

OneNote is a great research tool. We’ll learn how to use them in this module. We’ll start with the research task pane, where you can access a variety of services to help with your research. Then we’ll look at making text in pictures searchable. This module explains how to use linked notes sessions – how to start, take notes, and finish a linked notes session, as well as how to view and remove linked notes. Like the Dock to Desktop view but don’t want to automatically take linked notes? You can turn that feature off in the Options dialog box.

Module 8 : Advanced Review Tasks

In this module, you’ll learn more about translations. First we’ll look at translating words or phrases, which uses the Research pane. Then we’ll look at the Mini Translator. You’ll also learn how to set the proofing language for handwriting recognition and proofing tools. Finally, you’ll learn how to password protect a section of your notebook.

Module 9 : Collaborating

In this module, we’ll discuss the possibilities now that OneNote notebooks are truly in the cloud. This includes migrating notebooks to the cloud, inviting people or sharing a link, and seeing the results of other authors making changes to the notebook. You’ll also learn about viewing the Sync Status or manually syncing your notebooks. Last, we’ll look at taking meeting notes

Module 10 : Advanced Sharing Options

In this lesson, we’ll look at the options for exporting your notes. We’ll also look at the different ways to send your notes.
