Uncover the Truth: Detecting Lies & Deception at Work (2 days workshop)

Eyes To Spot Lies

There is hardly anybody who finds it palatable to be lied to—lies eat deep into our hearts and in most cases, leave us with eternal injuries. Anybody who successfully told us a lie is confidently taking us for an under-served ride. The most heartrending aspect of it is that we have all being lied to at a point or the other. In fact, research postulates that there is a probability of being lied to between two to three times in a ten-minute conversation. That is huge and shows how unimaginably deceitful people can be!

From the foregoing, it is crystal clear that we all need to be armed with the weaponry of lie detection—the main focus of this course! When you allow yourself to be incessantly deceived by people, it affects your success rate in life—you take wrong steps due to the wrong pieces of information you are being fed with and this leads to regret in most cases. The major preoccupation of this one-day well-organized course is to enlighten you on how to effortlessly identify deceitful people and their ways. Liars usually look innocent, loving and truthful on the surface level but it takes a skilled co-interlocutor to unmask their untruthfulness and understand their hidden intents. At the end of this course session, you won’t only become skilled in detecting lies, you will also be able to intelligently confront them and sort out things.

As an experienced trainer in the field, I can categorically state that lie detection is a skill that can be taught and learnt by anybody. However, remember that attention is the price you pay for distinction. If you follow my teaching sessions carefully, there is no argument about the fact that you stand to increase your lie detection accuracy by 50%-90%. It isn’t magical; it is what I’ve achieved in previous training sessions with participants from different parts of the world. More so, the training materials are masterfully sought, well-prepared and thoroughly-checked just in a bid to encompass all the societal components. Module 1 : The difficulty we have in calling someone a liar

What usually makes us fall victims of liars is that we are not suspicious of liars and their ways. We easily trust people and don’t make out time to verify the claims they make per time. In as much as it is good to give people benefit of the doubt, it is better to be critical of their affirmations. This may look complex, not feasible and time-consuming, but in this module, I will teach you the simple techniques you can adopt in identifying liars and their ways. At the end of the lesson, you should be able to know who a liar is, how they behave when they talk and their intents.

Module 2 : What the deception sounds like

Without mincing words, deception sounds truthful, especially if it is told by an expert. They hardly leave room for detection and their words are usually misleading. The reason why you have always been a victim of lies is because you don’t know how they sound—you have always taken everything as being truthful without considering the underlying intents. In this lesson, I will teach you how to sift lies from truth. This would be aptly captured on the various types of lies people normally tell and the method they deploy in spewing them out. Knowing what the truth is the first step to freedom.

Module 3 : The human lie detector VS machine lie detector

There is no gainsaying that technology has brought invaluable improvements to us in all facets of life but it will be amount to a fatal error to replace it with human intelligence—it is a product of human thinking and can never be equal to us! While trying to detect lies, over-reliance on polygraph will make a mockery of the whole process. You must understand the place of human discretion as the overall ultimate in catching a liar. In this module, I will explain the place of both machine and human lie detectors and where to draw the thin line.

Module 4 : Be a Body Language Expert: “R.E.B.L.E.” theory

Usually, people think low of themselves and think body language reading is meant for just a select few in the society. In fact, many people have erroneously attributed it to a quality that can only be found among law enforcement officers alone. We ALL can be body language experts in our own rights—it requires constant practice, activation of intuition and belief in oneself. In this lesson, you will learn the meaning of each body movement and how they are related to deception. However, I will hammer on context and the need to depend on clusters so as not to misinterpret movements. This will give us an insight in being conscious of the body language signals we also display per time.

Module 5 : Truth in the lie: Spying the unintended messages

When we talk about deception, it is not purely falsehood—there are usually some hidden truths in them. However, it takes a curious and critical mind to unravel the truth. One of the reasons people are unable to pick on the truth is that they zero their mind on their assumption on what a person says. In an ideal conversational setting, discussions should be subjected to contextual analysis so as to be able to point out the truths and falsehoods in them. At the end of this study, identifying the hidden truths in people’s words should become extremely easy.

Module 6 : Managing Emotions

There is no how the concept of falsehood can be extensively discussed without referring to emotions. Liars are always after our emotions. They understand that once they appeal to our emotions, they will achieve their evil intents. People really feel comfortable with their emotions. So, what exactly is this emotion and how does it work in humans? In this section, I will dissect the internal and external emotions. The internal emotion is the truthful emotions—it conveys the innate feelings of people while the external emotions can be manipulated, thus, the reason why liars are after the external emotion. A mastery of both emotions will help you in trapping down liars.

Module 7 : What the LIAR’S face has to say?

Since the face is the most exposed part of the body, it means it is an embodiment of countless messages. There is no argument about the fact that it is the best place to start noticing the signs of lies. Except in some few cultures of the world where looking people straight in the eyes is a sign of affront, you are expected to fix your gaze calmly at people during conversations. During the conversation with a liar, they let out a lot of subtle cues which you’ve always overlooked. In this segment, I will teach you how to look out for these expressions.

Module 8 : You don’t see, you won’t know

This module is to serve as a roll-over from the previous chapter which talks about facial expressions of liars. One major reason why people greatly miss out on these subtle cues is that they fail to critically observe the person’s posture during conversation. There is a great deal of power in observation and you will get to know that in this section. First, I will put you through on how to observe and the cultural indicators of deception. The module would be wrapped up by considering the common indicators which you don’t necessarily need any dexterity to point out. Ultimately, you establish that a person is lying when you are able to compare their body movement with their verbal utterances.

Module 9 : Let’s be careful out there!

Precaution is a vital key in lie detection. As we round off on this course, it is pertinent to note that you don’t necessarily have to be paranoid. One of the ill things this can lead to is that you begin to misinterpret the signs. Apart from looking out for signs, you need to ask to some questions which will lead to the validation of your suspicions. So, in this module, you would be taught the questions to ask and when it is appropriate to ask the questions. However, we shouldn’t shy away from the fact that there are limitations confronting us when it comes to lie detection. In this module, you will learn some of the limitations and you can still maneuver them.

Module 10 : Learning to be an expert

Just like it has always been my mantra anytime I take people on manpower courses, expertise can be achieved by anyone who is focused, resilient and believe in their own ability. Mediocrity is simply not an option for anyone who believes in recording sound success in any endeavor. In this module, you will learn the clues to body language reading which will make you sound like an expert. First, I will discuss the issue of clusters in situations and environment. However, before you can speak of clusters, you must understand baselines in body language reading. The module would be rounded off by teaching you the secret ways in which you can record people and learn from children.

Conclusion : Reflection

Surely, it has been a worthwhile and engaging learning session from the beginning of the course right till this level. However, what is most important is what you’ve learnt and how you will apply the knowledge in different facets of your life. May I reiterate the fact that all that you’ve learnt is not only meant for professional application alone, but can also be used in perfecting many areas in your personal dealings. Liars are always dubious and will look for inexplicable ways to play on your intelligence. However, if you want to be on top of the situation at all times, be open-minded and very observant. Finally, don’t forget the place of emotions in lie detection. Your concern should be the internal emotion as it is known to be truthful and usually out the control of humans. But the external emotion is often a product of manipulations by liars.
