SharePoint 365 Essentials

In this workshop your participants will learn how to sign on to the Microsoft Office 365 portal, and see where their SharePoint content will be stored. They will learn about the home page of the portal, where to sign into the Team Site and the Office 365 web apps, including Outlook.

Through SharePoint Essentials your participants will take a look at the Team Site and how to navigate around and view the SharePoint site. SharePoint Online is the Office 365 answer to collaboration. SharePoint Online will let your participants manage documents and information in one place that customers and colleagues can access from virtually anywhere.

Introduction : Getting Started

Welcome to the Office 365 SharePoint Online for Enterprises Essentials workshop. SharePoint Online is the Office 365 answer to collaboration. SharePoint Online helps your enterprise manage documents and information in one place that customers and colleagues can access from virtually anywhere.

Module 1 : Basic SharePoint Concepts

Welcome to Office 365! In this module, you’ll learn how to sign on to the Microsoft Office 365 portal, where your SharePoint content will be stored. You’ll learn about the home page of the portal, where you sign into the Team Site and your Office 365 web apps, including Outlook. Then we’ll take a look at the Team Site and how to navigate around while you are on the SharePoint site. This module will also discuss permissions in SharePoint Online and how they affect your SharePoint experience. Finally, you’ll learn how to change the site theme to customize your own SharePoint experience.

Module 2 : Working with My Site

This module will introduce you to My Site – your own personal space within the SharePoint site. You’ll learn how to view and update your profile, which can be seen by others in your organization. You’ll also learn how to follow colleagues. Then you’ll learn how to use tags and notes to share information. This module also explains how to update your status and follow your newsfeed.

Module 3 : Working with SharePoint Content

This module will introduce you to some of the content types – a way to manage your content in a consistent way in SharePoint. You’ll learn how to add an item to a list and how to upload a file to a library. You’ll also learn about checking items in and out so that the content on the SharePoint site is always the most current version and there are no conflicts when many people are collaborating on content. Finally, this module explains how to track versions on an item or file.

Module 4 : Working with Libraries

In this module, you’ll learn all about SharePoint libraries. First, we’ll cover the various types of libraries you can create for different types of content. Then, you’ll learn how to view library items. This module covers how to create a new document to add to your library. You’ll also learn how to edit or delete a library item. We’ll take a closer look at the Library Tools available when you are working in a library. Finally, you’ll learn how to create a new library to store related files.

Module 5 : Working with Lists

Just as there are different types of libraries, there are many different types of lists in SharePoint. This module introduces some of the different types of lists and explains the list tool bars available when you are working with lists. You’ll also learn how to view, edit, and delete items on a list. Then you’ll learn how to create a list. You’ll create an Issues list for use in a later module. Finally, we’ll take a look at how to customize a list.

Module 6 : Working with Other Types of Lists

This module will introduce you to some of the other types of lists. You’ll learn how to use the Announcements list, where you can track upcoming events, status updates, or other team news. You’ll also learn how to use the Issues list. An issues list can be used to keep track of any type of complaints or problems. The links list allows you to store links to other web sites that your team may find useful. The tasks list is a great way to share tasks across your entire team. Finally, we’ll take look at searching in SharePoint to find a specific list item in a long list.

Module 7 : Working with Calendars

You will learn about the SharePoint calendars in this module. First, we’ll look at the calendar interface and how you view and navigate the calendar. Then you’ll learn how to add new events. This module also explains how to manage events on your team calendar. We’ll take a look at how to Connect to Outlook. Finally, you’ll learn how to create a new calendar for your SharePoint site.

Module 8 : Working with Sites and Pages

SharePoint is a collection of different sites. This module introduces the tools to help you manage all of those sites. First, you’ll learn how to edit a page. Then, you’ll get an introduction to web parts, the modular pieces you can use to build a page. You’ll learn how to edit and delete web parts. Finally, this module explains how to create a site.

Module 9 : Working with Views

Views are a feature of SharePoint that allows you to find information quickly. You can sort or filter a list or library to change a view temporarily. If you want to save that view for future visits to the list or library, you’ll need to create a view. Before doing so, you might want to create a column to store customized information for the list or library. This module explains how to sort and filter lists and libraries. It also explains how to create a private view. Once you have created a view, you can select it whenever you visit that list or library. Finally, this module explains how to modify a view.

Module 10 : Using Workflows

This module introduces you to the workflows feature in SharePoint. You’ll learn about workflows to understand what they can do to improve your business processes. You’ll also learn the different types of standard workflows that come with SharePoint Online. This module explains how to add a three-state workflow to a list, such as if you want to track the status of issues on an issues list. Then you’ll learn how to manually start a workflow. Finally, you’ll learn how to monitor and review a workflow.
