SharePoint Designer 2007 Essentials

SharePoint Designer is a reincarnation of the previous Microsoft FrontPage product. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create dynamic websites with custom development. This workshop incorporates a hands-on approach to learning. They will get a chance to practice some of the basic features right on a computer.

With SharePoint Designer 2007 you are able to edit HTML, create, and modify webpages that run SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint Server. SharePoint Designer a great tool and this Essentials course will provide your participants with a solid foundation to start building their SharePoint skill set.

Introduction : Getting Started

Welcome to the Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2007 Essentials workshop. SharePoint Designer is a reincarnation of the previous Microsoft FrontPage product. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create dynamic websites with custom development.

Module 1 : Opening and Closing SharePoint Designer

To get started, we’re going to learn the very basics of SharePoint Designer, including how to open and close it and how to use the interface. You’ll also learn how to create a new web page and a new website.

Module 2 : Working with Web Pages

In this module, you’ll learn about working with web pages, including opening and closing web pages, saving web pages, and using a template to create a web page. You’ll also learn about opening web pages from the recent list.

Module 3 : Your First Web Page

In this module, you’ll learn about the details of creating a web page. We’ll start with understanding the difference between the two views: design view and code view. Then we’ll look at how to layout your page. You’ll learn how to add text and check your spelling. Finally, we’ll set the page properties so that your web page looks just right.

Module 4 : Working with Tables

In this module, you’ll learn about using tables in SharePoint Designer 2007. You’ll learn how to create a table and how to add text to a table. You’ll also learn how to modify rows and columns. Finally, this module will explain how to format tables.

Module 5 : Working with Images

In this module, we’ll learn how to use images in your web pages. Some topics to look forward to: • Adding pictures from a file • Inserting clip art • About Resampling • Modifying Images • Deleting Images

Module 6 : Formatting Tools

In this module, you’ll learn how to make you text look great. We’ll first look at the basic formatting tools available in SharePoint Designer 2007. Then we’ll take a look at using styles to add consistency and convenience to your formatting. You’ll learn how to use the format painter. Finally, we’ll look at both borders and shading for your web page text.

Module 7 : Linking Pages

Web pages need links to other content! This module helps you make your web pages work. You’ll learn how to add hyperlinks and bookmark links. You’ll also learn about hotspots. Finally, this module will cover how to add an interactive button to your web page.

Module 8 : Creating a Navigation Scheme

This module will discuss issues relating to navigation. Your navigation capabilities will differ, depending on your configuration of SharePoint, but these topics should get you started. We’ll look at the Navigation view first. Then we’ll take a look at creating and editing a link bar. We’ll go into a little more detail about link bars to make sure you understand how they work. Finally, we’ll look at how to remove an element from a link bar.

Module 9 : Using the Toolbox

This module introduces the Toolbox. You’ll learn how to show and hide the toolbox, depending on how you want to manage the space in your SharePoint Designer workspace. You’ll also learn how to find frequently used items in your toolbox. Then this module will explain how to add, modify, and remove an element.

Module 10 : Finishing Your Site

You’re site is almost ready! Now we’ll look at how to preview a single page. We’ll learn how to change the preview settings for your site. You’ll also learn how to publish the site. Finally, we’ll take a look at how to back up the site.
