Welcome to the SharePoint Designer 2010 Essentials workshop. You can use SharePoint Designer 2010 to design, build, and customize Web sites running on SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create data-rich Web pages, build powerful workflow-enabled solutions, and design the look and feel of your site.
This module launches you into the world of SharePoint Designer 2010. First, we’ll provide a brief introduction to this powerful tool. You’ll learn how to open and close SharePoint Designer. We’ll also take a look at the interface and the Backstage View.
In this module, you’ll learn how to open a site for editing in SharePoint Designer. You’ll also learn how to create a new blank site or a site from a template. This module explains how to save the changes to your site, as well as how to close a site once you are finished working with it.
This module first investigates the tools you can use when working with your site, including the Site Summary page. Then you’ll learn how to add users and groups to your site and change permissions. You’ll also learn how to edit or delete a site. Finally, you’ll gain a brief overview of how to manage the site options.
In this module, we will discuss the most common types of lists and libraries available. Then we will look at the list and library tools available in the Ribbon, as well as the Summary page for lists and libraries. You’ll learn how to create a new list. Finally, we’ll discuss how to work with columns for your lists and libraries.
This module begins with a look at the tools and Summary pages available when working with Site Pages. Then we’ll discuss using Master Pages, including the Ribbon commands, Summary page, and how to create a new master page. Finally, we’ll take a brief look at how to edit a page.
In this module, you’ll learn about content types. We’ll first discuss what content types are and why you need to use them. Next we’ll look at the Ribbon tab and Summary page that show when working with Content types. You’ll also learn how to create, edit, and delete a content type. Finally, you’ll learn how to show an existing column on the content type.
This module explains data views and forms to help you get the most out of your information. We’ll start with learning about list views and data views, including how to open them. You’ll learn about data view/form web parts. Then you’ll learn how to create a view. Next, you’ll learn how to create a data form, as well as how to edit a form. Finally, this module explores the different ways you can customize a view or form.
Now it’s time to put SharePoint Designer to work! SharePoint Designer can help you design powerful workflows. This module provides an overview of workflows and helps you understand the commands and Summary pages when working with workflows. It also explains how to copy and modify a workflow.
This module will introduce you to using data connections in SharePoint Designer 2010. Your Lists and Libraries automatically create a data source. First, we’ll look at the tools and summary page when working with Data Sources. Then you’ll learn how to create a linked data source. We’ll also look at how to copy and modify a data source.
Once you have customized your SharePoint site, you can save it as a template. This module explains SharePoint templates. You’ll also learn how to save a site as a template. Finally, you’ll learn how to activate the site template in the solution gallery.
