Windows 7 Essentials will show your participants the great new features of Windows 7 and provide them with a great base to further their Windows 7 experiences. With Windows 7 you are able to better manage your time by providing new and more efficient tools and applications.
Welcome to the Windows 7 Essentials workshop. This workshop will help you unlock the power of the tools available in Windows 7. By the end of this workshop, your new desktop will have you rocketing through your tasks like a pro!
Upgrading your computer’s operating system can seem like a daunting task. Have no fear! Microsoft will guide you every step of the way. Begin with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to learn about any issues you could expect when upgrading your system. This module will guide you through upgrading either from Windows Vista or Windows XP. We’ll then talk about the User State Migration Tools. Finally, we’ll review the Windows Easy Transfer program, which will help you move all of the things you love about your current Windows operating system to your new experience.
This module demystifies the new Start menu. First, you’ll learn how to log in and out of Windows. Then, we’ll take a look at the All Programs list. The powerful new Search box will be covered in the next lesson. We’ll look at pinning an item to the Start menu, and finally we’ll take that a step by customizing the Start menu.
This module introduces an exciting new feature in Windows 7 – the Jump Lists. These are lists of your recent items for a selected program, which you can also customize. This module also explains the Live Taskbar preview, or Aero Peek. You’ll learn how to pin your favorite items to the Taskbar for instant access to the items you use every day. In this module, you’ll also learn about the Notification Area and the Action Center to help you keep on top of what’s happening with your computer.
In this module, we begin looking at the Control Panel. The Control Panel is an area in Windows where you can change the settings for your computer to work according to your needs and preferences. In this module, we’ll look at the System and Security controls first. We’ll also look at Network and Internet, Hardware and Sound and Programs.
In this module, we will continue looking at the Control Panel. You’ll learn how to set up a user account and change your Windows password. This module explains how to really personalize your computer. We’ll also cover the Clock, Region, and Language settings, as well as the Ease of Access settings.
Windows 7 includes a number of items to enhance your Windows experience. This module will show you how to use the desktop and slideshow gadgets. Then we’ll look at themes, which provide a personalized look and feel to your Windows desktop. You’ll also learn how to use the new Windows Sticky Notes to jot anything down anytime. Next, we’ll look at the snipping tool, which allows you to take screen captures of your windows. Finally, we’ll look at the options for getting more gadgets online.
It’s time to really get to work. In this module, we’ll look at some great tools for being more productive in Windows 7. First, you’ll learn how to drag and drop files in different locations. Then we’ll look at the Aero Shake and Snap tools to help you manage your workspace. Next, we’ll learn about the Windows 7 Libraries. Finally, we’ll take a look at some useful Windows shortcuts.
It’s time to get connected. This module will help you learn how to use HomeGroups and available networks. You’ll also learn how to share files. Then we’ll take a look at remote media streaming. Finally, we’ll discuss location aware printing.
In this module, we’ll take a look at some of the applications that are built into Windows 7. First, we’ll look at an application you may miss: Windows Mail. We’ll talk about Windows Live Mail, the replacement for Windows Mail. Then we’ll look at Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. You’ll learn about the backup and restore capabilities in Windows 7. Finally, we’ll explore the Windows Media Center.
Sometimes there are glitches in even the best programs. This module will help you with some of the Windows 7 troubleshooting tools. First, we’ll talk about program compatibility. Then we’ll look at the Problem Steps recorder. This module explains the System Restore tool. You’ll also learn about XP mode. Finally, we’ll look at the Startup Repair tool
