Introduction : Getting Started

Welcome to the Advanced Word 2007 workshop. Whether you are a business writer, a marketer, or someone who uses the software for general document creation and handling, the skills included in this course will help you maximize your use of many powerful Word features to create effective, visually attractive, and useful documents.

Module 1 : Working with the Word Window

The Word window provides tools that allow you to quickly and efficiently use and manage your Word screen appearance. This module explores zoom, screen views, splitting a document, and the document map.

Module 2 : Adding Pictures

In this module, we’ll explore how to add an image from the Microsoft Office ®Clip Art gallery and a picture from a file. We’ll also practice using the Picture Tools Tab, and learn to move or delete a previously inserted picture.

Module 3 : Adding SmartArt

SmartArt graphics are a collection of diagrams that allow you to enhance bulleted or other text by translating them into graphic images, adding to the document’s visual impact and appeal. We will insert a SmartArt diagram, add text to it, change its attributes using the SmartArt Tools tab, and move and delete the SmartArt diagram.

Module 4 : Adding Tables

A Table is a grid with columns and rows called cells. Using a table, you can quickly add data and then apply a style, creating an information display that’s succinct and visually appealing.

Module 5 : Advanced Table Tasks

Once you’ve mastered Table Styles, it’s a snap to work with rows and columns. In this module, we explore how to resize rows and columns, along with adding, changing, and deleting them.

Module 6 : Inserting Special Objects

Word 2007 has a host of ways to add dimension and interest to your documents graphically. In this module, we learn about the new cover page feature, and streamlined methods and tools for working with WordArt, drawing shapes, and adding a Text Box.

Module 7 : Adding In-Document References

The method for creating a table of contents has been simplified in Word 2007. And the Manage Sources tools combined with the new group of References tools make working with footnotes, endnotes, citations, and bibliographies much less drudgery. We also explore the process for marking index entries and generating an index.

Module 8 : Advanced Research Tasks

Word 2007 offers several advanced research tools. They include a thesaurus with synonyms, translation of words into languages other than English, and the ability to establish a default language. In this module, we’ll explore the Research Task pane where much of this work is done.

Module 9 : Reviewing a Document

Word provides tools that allow an individual or a group to make and review comments, track changes that are made to the document, and to compare two documents to identify their differences.

Module 10 : Customizing Word

Word 2007 provides utilities to create a customized environment that reflects the needs of the person using it. For example, you can make the Ribbon disappear, add or remove features from the Quick Access Toolbar, and change many of Word’s environmental and display options, including some control over colors.
